Deputy Minister Marta Dassù has received the Director General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü. The meeting took place at the Farnesina today, just a few hours after agreement was reached in New York on the text of the resolution on dismantling Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile.
Topics for discussion included the preparations for the meeting of OPAC’s executive committee, which has been called to adopt a decision on the special procedures required to ensure that Syria’s chemical arsenal is destroyed in a rapid timescale. Deputy Minister Dassù expressed her appreciated of the unprecedented task facing OPAC following the Kerry-Lavrov agreement of 14 September 2013. She underscored the significant contribution Italy intends to make to ensure that the ambitious schedule is respected.
