Greenpeace activist D’Alessandro: Minister Bonino in constant contact with Embassy in Moscow

Foreign Minister Emma Bonino is in constant contact with the Italian Embassy in Moscow and our Consulate General in St. Petersburg to find a solution to the situation of Cristian D’Alessandro – a Greenpeace activist currently held in Murmansk and accused of piracy.

Acting on Minister Bonino’s instructions, the diplomatic-consular offices in Russia are providing help for Mr. D’Alessandro, in coordination with the diplomatic missions of the other accused parties’ countries. The Vice Consul from our mission in St. Petersburg has been in Murmansk since 22 September 2013 to help our fellow citizen. The Vice Consul has met Mr. D’Alessandro and found him in good mental and physical condition.

In Moscow, the Italian Ambassador has met the Director General for the European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Our Ambassador pointed out the peaceful and purely demonstrative nature of Greenpeace’s action and the fact that Italy expects our fellow national’s situation to be clarified as soon as possible.

The Farnesina is in constant contact with Mr D’Alessandro’s family and with Greenpeace.
