The Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mario Giro, has congratulated Irina Bokova on her re-election as Director General of UNESCO.
“Italy supported Director Bokova’s re-election”, declared Under-Secretary Giro. “We shall continue to work with her to enhance Italy’s role in the organisation. Our country is one of the main contributors to UNESCO and is home to some of its key scientific bodies, with offices in Trieste, Perugia (the Water Assessment centre), and Venice (the regional centre for Europe).
The protection of our heritage and the skills and expertise involved in the arts and scientific research are aspects of our country that should be enhanced. Aspects on which we shall be working from day one with Director General Bokova”, concluded the Under-Secretary.
