Foreign Minister Emma Bonino met Li Yong, the newly appointed Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), at the Farnesina today, 22 October 2013.
Their discussion focused on the outlook for collaboration between Italy and UNIDO and on the programme and priorities for Li Yong’s mandate. Minister Bonino reiterated Italy’s committed support for the Organisation and our government’s keen interest in exploring future collaboration, especially in the Mediterranean region and through the development of public-private partnerships.
Italy’s is the world’s 4th contributor to UNIDO’s ordinary budget and also provides a voluntary contribution to the Industrial Development Fund and to individual multi-bilateral Trust Fund projects. UNIDO has an Italian Investment and Technology Promotion Office(ITPO Italy) whose mandate is to foster economic growth in developing countries by mobilising technical, financial and operational resources for industrial and technological investment projects.
