Foreign Minister Emma Bonino has welcomed the Russian authorities’ decision to release Italian national Cristian D’Alessandro on bail. D’Alessandro was arrested on 19 September 2013 as part of the Greenpeace Arctic case.
“Cristian’s release is a first, positive step in the right direction. I hope it is a signal of the Russian authorities’ intention to assess the events that led to his arrest in an objective manner”.
“We will continue to monitor the case very closely to obtain Cristian’s full releases”, concluded the Foreign Minister. “In the meantime, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the Italian Consulate General in St. Petersburg, our Embassy in Moscow and all the staff at the Farnesina who, since Cristian’s arrest, have been working to find a solution to the case”.
