Philippines: new Italian Development Cooperation flight

A new Italian Development Cooperation flight – the third since the onset of the emergency in the Philippines caused by Typhoon Haiyan – left the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) in Brindisi today, headed for Cebu.


The plane is carrying 42.5 tons of supplies such as tents, emergency shelters, water containers and purification equipment, electricity generators, medical kits and latrines, for a total value of around 250,000 euros. The flight is also carrying humanitarian supplies provided by INTERSOS, an Italian non-governmental organisation (NGO).


The goods will be unloaded and prepared for distribution under the supervision of officials from our Embassy in Manila and by the MFA and INTERSOS personnel travelling with the consignment.


Italian Development Cooperation will be organising new humanitarian initiativesin coming weeks, including additional flights, in close liaison with the United Nations and the European Union.
