Iran: Bonino’s satisfaction with the Geneva accord. Important step in Mideast peace

“I am very pleased that the Geneva negotiations have led to a 5+1 Group accord with the Iranian authorities. This is a first essential step toward rebuilding that climate of trust that is indispensable to reassuring the international community about Iran’s nuclear programme”, Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino commented upon hearing the news from Geneva.

“We have seen false starts before in the past, so we are forced to be cautious. We are at the beginning of a negotiating process that has many unknowns, but if it ends positively, as we all are hoping it will, it may pave the way to new prospects for peace throughout the Middle East”.

“We are now hoping that the resumption of negotiations with Teheran will also help to encourage the convening of the Geneva 2 conference to put an end to the conflict in Syria and, above all, to open humanitarian corridors as soon as possible in order to bring aid to that war-battered population”, the minister concluded.
