The Somali parliament voted its confidence today in the government of Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed. Minister for Foreign Affairs of Italy Emma Bonino expressed her “satisfaction” with the formation of the new government, stressing the importance of giving new impetus to a Somalia’s stabilisation process.
“The president and prime minister must now work together to strengthen the country’s security conditions and foster dialogue with the rest of the region, laying the foundations for building an effective federal system and ensuring the defence of human rights”, the minister added, recalling the principal challenges with which the Mogadishu authorities will be faced in the coming moths.
“Italy, not least within the framework of the EU, will continue to support the new government’s efforts to achieve these goals, in the hopes that the Somali people may soon enjoy peace and prosperity”, the minister stated.
