Scalise and Gallo freed: Bonino overjoyed and satisfied

“I am overjoyed and satisfied at the news that Francesco Scalise and Luciano Gallo have been freed”, responded Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino upon learning of the liberation of the two Italian technicians abducted in Libya in January.

The operation was the fruit of a joint effort by the Libyan and Italian authorities and coordination between the Ministry’s Crisis Unit and other State bodies.

“I wish to express my deep gratitude”, the minister continued, “to all the women and men of the Italian foreign ministry and other institutions involved whose efforts led to achieving this positive outcome within a very difficult context”.

The two Italians are awaited at Rome’s Ciampino airport at approximately 17:30 hours.
