Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini met today at the foreign ministry in Rome with French Minister for European Affairs Thierry Repentin. During their discussions, in which Minister Mogherini illustrated the guidelines for the upcoming Italian European Union Presidency, important points of convergence emerged on the importance of Mediterranean concerns and on the advisability of strengthening Community policies on migration and security in light of the region’s overall political and economic fragility .
They also agreed on the themes of growth and employment – particularly with regard to young people – that will be strategic priorities of the Italian Presidency with a view to launching a “legislature of growth” after the European elections in line with the “Europe 2020” objectives.
