Former Senator Dell’Utri: clarification of today’s reports

With a view to providing clarification regarding today’s press reports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifies that it never issued a diplomatic passport to former Senator Marcello Dell’Utri.

Dell’Utri was issued a service passport, predicated on issuance of “no impediment” from the authorised Police, initially as a member of parliament from 24 January 1997 to 9 May 2001, and again as Senator of the Republic from 24 January 2002 to 29 May 2006, renewed on 21 February 2006 and valid until 28 April 2011.

He was issued a final service passport on 14 June 2012 with an expiration date of 28 April 2013, after being re-elected to the XVI legislature. This final document has expired and is not renewable.
