Minister Mogherini meets with foreign minister of the Republic of Finlandia Erkki Sakari Tuomioja

Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini met in Rome today with her Finnish opposite number Erkki Sakari Tuomioja.

First on the agenda was convergence and collaboration between Rome and Helsinki on the priorities of the Italian EU Council Presidency, from the Western Balkans to the Mediterranean, with particular regard for Libya and immigration.

Other key themes were developments in Ukraine and Euro-Russian relations which, the two ministers agreed, need to be strengthened in the form of strategic partnership over the course of the Italian Presidency.

Minister Mogherini and her colleague Tuomioja then discussed the situation in Syria and Iraq, the status of the Middle East peace process – not least in relation to Minister Mogherini’s recent meetings in the area and in Rome with Presidents Abbas and Peres – and, finally, exchanged views on the post-2015 agenda.
