Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini spoke on the phone today with the American Secretary of State, John Kerry, and met the German Foreign Minister, Frank Walter Steinmeier. The contacts took place during her long-planned visit to the Middle East, and focused on the dramatic situation in Gaza and Israel.
During the morning, Minister Mogherini visited the Peres Center for Peace in Tel Aviv. Accompanied by her Israeli counterpart, Avigdor Lieberman, she then visited Ashdod, which has been hit by rockets launched from Gaza. In Ashdod, she met the mayor and members of the local Italian community.
This evening [15 July 2014] she will be received in Ramallah by the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.
