Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini spoke by telephone this evening with OSCE secretary-general Lamberto Zannier, who informed her on OSCE observers’ access to the site near the Ukraine-Russian border where a Malaysian Airlines plane was shot down yesterday evening. “The separatists must ensure access to the area, and a rigorous and impartial inquest leading to reliable results must be conducted”, Mogherini said.
“Those responsible for this abominable act, that has impacted on the lives of so many families, to whom I extend my deepest condolences, must be identified. Russia must ensure its full and credible collaboration with inquiries”, she continued.
“In the wake of this tragedy, the unconditional bilateral ceasefire that the entire international community has been urging for some time now is more urgent than ever”, she concluded.
