Mideast: Mogherini discusses Gaza and Libya with Palestinian and Qatari ministers

The crises in Gaza and Libya were the focus of bilateral meetings that Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini held today in Bogotà with Palestinian foreign minister Riad al Malki and Qatari foreign minister Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah.

During the meetings, which took place in the margins of the ceremony for the inauguration of Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos, Mogherini discussed the prospects offered by the ceasefire in Gaza and the negotiations under way in Cairo for a political resolution to the crisis. She asked both governments to maintain their commitment to fostering this result. With Attiyah the minister spoke at length also of the situation in Libya. Both viewed favourably the glimmer of hope of recent days and agreed to maintain the commitment to contributing to the country’s stabilisation. According to Mogherini, the seating of the parliament could represent the long-awaited launch of an inclusive institution-building process, the only viable path to ensuring a peaceful future in Libya.
