Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini considers that, following the appointment of Haider al Abadi as premier, the future of Iraq depends on the rapid formation of a national unity government.
“At such a tragic moment for Iraq, the initiative of President Fouad Masum to appoint Haider al Abadi prime minister could pave the way at least to the country’s political stabilisation. Iraqis and the entire international community now await the rapid formation of a national unity government as inclusive as possible, which is indispensable to confronting the ISIS attacks”, Mogherini said, who sent al Abadi a message of congratulations on his appointment.
“The Iraqi people and authorities can rely on Italy’s support and solidarity in their struggle against the threats and challenges ahead”, the minister added.
