Minister Di Maio’s telephone conversation with German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas

This afternoon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, had a telephone conversation with the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heiko Maas. Soon after the last meetings, the conversation has been the occasion to discuss the latest developments in the Libyan situation, on which Italy and Germany firmly agree.

The two Ministers reaffirmed the importance of keeping a close cooperation to work on the objective of a political solution that is anchored to the Berlin Process, in a phase where tensions and military build-up risk to trigger a military confrontation on a large scale. In reiterating Italian strong support to the Berlin Process, Minister Di Maio confirmed the priorities of the Italian action: reaching an effective and lasting ceasefire and the prompt resumption of oil production. Moreover, the Ministers briefly addressed the topic of Eastern Mediterranean and agreed on the importance of keeping a constructive dialogue with Ankara.
