The crisis in Iraq was the focus of a telephone conversation between Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and her Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif. The two ministers discussed the political situation and the need for the rapid formation of a national unity government in Iraq following the appointment of Haider al Abadi.
Mogherini and Zarif then agreed on the need to halt the ISIS attacks, and for the international defence of minority groups and the entire civilian population.
