Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini expressed appreciation for the decision by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton to convene a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council on the crises in Iraq, Gaza and Libya for 15 August. “It is well that the EU has decided, as Italy and later France recently urged, to assemble all 28 members to confront the dramatic crises in Iraq, Gaza and Libya”, she said. “This summit must produce not only a common declaration of principle on all three of these crisis scenarios, but also a decision on strong and coordinated action”, she said, adding that, “this was my objective in insisting that the Foreign Affairs Council be convened immediately”.
