According to Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, the agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza, proposed by Egypt and announced this evening, will pave the way to political negotiations capable of leading to the resolution of the Middle East conflict. “After seven weeks of expectations, all too often disappointed, it is my hope that the accord facilitated by Egypt constitutes the turning point we have been waiting for and toward which we have been working with many other countries”, she said.
“The Israelis and Palestinians now need to launch negotiations as soon as possible for a lasting truce and political agreement that finally lead to a stable settlement”, she added.
