According to Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, approval of the UN Security Council resolution on Libya confirms the central role that the United Nations must play in settling the crisis. “At this dramatic moment so decisive to the country’s destiny, the resolution once again urges all parties to engage in inclusive political dialogue and to respect the democratic process, the only viable option for the future peace and reconstruction of Libya”, Mogherini said when commenting on the text co-sponsored by Italy. The United Nations, the minister continued, “call upon all international and regional actors capable of exerting an influence to work constructively toward ending the hostilities and seek a peaceful settlement. The resolution confirms the UN’s strong commitment and central role in fostering stability in Libya, a crucial objective for the future of the Libyan people and on behalf of which Italy has worked and will continue to work”.
