Ukraine: Mogherini and Klimkin speak, east situation on EU ministers’ agenda Friday in Milan

Today’s alarming news once again from Ukraine was the focus of a telephone meeting that Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini held today with her Ukraine colleague Pavel Klimkin. The chief Kiev diplomat voiced his concerns to Mogherini over developments on the ground, despite the hopes sparked for the launch of negotiations after the recent meeting between Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin. For her part, the foreign minister reiterated Italy’s support for Ukraine during this difficult process of transition and reform, and ensured him that the situation in the country’s eastern region would be a main item on the agenda of the informal EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Milan.
