Gentiloni voices concern for heightened tensions in Jerusalem

“The situation in the Haram Al Sharif / Temple Mount area, exacerbated by persistent closing of places of prayer, has become alarming”, said Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni.

The minister expressed firm condemnation for recent acts of violence against religious representatives, security forces and defenceless civilians in some areas of Jerusalem.

“The acts are unjustifiable and contradict the Holy City’s history of and vocation for tolerance and civil and religious co-existence. All parties must now exercise responsibility, “Gentiloni concluded, “and avoid acts or statements that could further aggravate an already fragile situation”.
