Gentiloni: elections in Tunisia new crucial step toward democracy

Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni expressed his satisfaction with the elections in Tunisia, saying they were “a perfect demonstration of the country’s determination to follow the path of democracy undertaken in late 2010”.

“After the positive legislative elections in October”, the minister continued, “Tunisia has taken a new crucial step toward democracy with free and transparent elections. It is my hope that the next stages of the democratic transition are an expression of freedom, transparency and rejection of violence”.

“We trust”, Gentiloni concluded, “that the president that comes out at the polls will continue to pursue that stabilisation process necessary to ensure the Tunisian people a future of prosperity and peace”.
