Secretary General of the Farnesina Michele Valensise summoned Estonian ambassador to Italy Celia Kunigas this evening for immediate clarification regarding the arrest of journalist and former parliament member Giulietto Chiesa this afternoon in Tallin.
Valensise expresses dismay and concern for the Estonian authorities’ action and the manner in which it was carried out. Chiesa, who arrived in the Estonian capital this morning to attend a conference, was arrested without any explanation. The secretary general then demanded the immediate release of Giulietto Chiesa.
The ambassador from Estonia provided assurances that Italy’s demand would be promptly conveyed to Tallin with the hope that the affair would be brought to a rapid and positive conclusion.
