Libya: Gentiloni hails ceasefire declarations

“Finally a glimmer of hope from Libya. I was very pleased to receive the news of the declarations by the parties concerned in Libya of a ceasefire aimed at creating the conditions for the pursuance of dialogue”, said Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni. “Despite the multitude of difficulties still to be confronted and identified, we are one step closer to resolving Libya’s political, security, institutional and economic crisis, which can only be achieved by involving all components of Libyan society in overcoming the differences”, the minister added. “Italy will continue to extend the maximum support”, Gentiloni concluded, “to the mediation efforts of Special Representative Bernardino Leon and to all Libyan parties that contribute in earnest to the formation of a national unity government and to the cessation of all hostilities”.
