Nepal earthquake: Under-Secretary Della Vedova sends condolences

Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova today expressed “profound condolences for the victims of the Nepal earthquake, and solidarity and friendship with the Nepalese people”.The under-secretary recalled a recent visit in late October to Kathmandu and to the EvK2CNR Pyramid located at 5,050 meters altitude on the Nepalese face of Everest, where Italian and Nepalese scientists were working.“During that visit, I underscored Italy’s commitment to supporting Nepal in its internal peace-making efforts. It is our desire now to sustain the Nepalese people under these tragic circumstances”, the under-secretary commented, referring to a 300,000 EUR contribution in emergency aid announced by Minister Gentiloni. Della Vedova also made personal contact with Professor Agostino Da Polenza, president of EvK2CNR, to confirm the safety of all the personnel working at the Pyramid where, he reported, “seismic instruments are operational and monitoring developments”.
