The National Council for Development Cooperation, which met for the first time today, has a fundamental role in ensuring the coordinated and consistent action of all public and private, profit and non-profit, sector actors in compliance with clear and consensual rules. The Development Cooperation is a strategic investment for Italy in its efforts at confronting the major challenges of security, global growth, climate change and migration.
This was the political message that emerged from the first meeting of the National Council for Development Cooperation (CNCS) held today at the Farnesina and chaired by Minister Paolo Gentiloni.
In the course of the meeting, the National Council expressed its favourable opinion of a 3-year planning and orientation document outlining the Italian Development Cooperation’s strategic vision and that will constitute a framework of reference for ministries and other actors. Other topics included the status of implementing Development Cooperation reforms, of which the Council is the first step, and the principal international negotiations on the matter.
The National Council, made up of 50 representatives from the Italian Development Cooperation System, is tasked with fostering understanding amongst the various actors, forming partnerships and expressing expert opinions.
