Signing of UN-proposed peace and reconciliation agreement in Morocco a welcome advance, says Gentiloni

Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni has expressed his “satisfaction over the signing today [12 July] in Morocco by the Tobruk and Misurata delegates, and by representatives of independent movements and municipalities, of the agreement on peace and reconciliation in Libya proposed by the UN”.

“The signing”, said Gentiloni, “gives us grounds for hope and encourages us to continue with our negotiating efforts”.

“It is now up to Tripoli to make a significant and responsible gesture by signing up to the agreement proposed by the UN Special Representative, Bernardino Leon, with the full support of Italy also”.

“This is an important step towards an agreed political solution to the crisis and the restoration of conditions of peace and stability in Libya”, concluded Minister Gentiloni.
