The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni held a phone conversation this afternoon with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in which he expressed Italy’s deep concern over the explosion of violence in Jerusalem and in the Gaza Strip , as he had done earlier this morning with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Gentiloni expressed the hope that both parties adopt measures aimed at de-escalating the tensions and, in this regard, Minister Gentiloni assured the Palestinian President of Italy’s commitment to the resumption of peace negotiations, with two States co-existing as the only possible solution to the conflict.
