Italy has notified the authorities in Turkey and Kazakhstan of its formal decision to accept the invitations to take part in the next international expositions, in Antalya in 2016 and Astana in 2017. The two Expositions, which will be held in a regulatory framework established by the Bureau International des Expositions, are intermediate stages between EXPO Milan and the next Universal Exposition, in Dubai in 2020.
The theme for the horticultural Exposition in Antalya will be “Flowers and Children”, with the motto “A Green Life for Future Generations”. Biodiversity, sustainability and green cities will be the themes of the national pavilions, and the subject of debates and meetings in a programme running from 23 April to 30 October 2016. For Italy, the Flowers and Children Exposition will be an important opportunity to showcase our nursery gardening sector, whose 47,000 enterprises account for sales totalling 3 billion euro.
The International Exposition in Astana will run from 10 June to 10 September 2017, with the focus on “Future Energy”. Here, the concept of sustainability will be examined in relation to responsible and efficient energy production in the immediate future, most notably renewable energy and the effect of energy production on the environment.
After the great success of the Universal Exposition in Milan, and in a spirit of continuity with that event, the Antalya and Astana expositions will provide a new opportunity to demonstrate Italy’s contribution to the international debate on key issues for the future of humanity.
