Ethiopia: Italy to contribute 1 million euros to WFP and FAO for food emergency

In response to the serious emergency situation caused by the “El Nino” climate phenomenon, that for months has been affecting the Horn of Africa, and Ethiopia in particular, the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has decided to allocate one million euros for food security interventions in Ethiopia. The Italian cooperation funding will be equally divided between the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The 500,000 Euro contribution to the WFP will be destined to meeting the dietary requirements of the most vulnerable groups, while the contribution to the FAO will fund the provision of seeds and equipment for the worst affected agropastoral communities, thereby strengthening their ability to tackle the emergency.

The technical aspects of both interventions were defined in agreement with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
