Minister Gentiloni at the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the death of Altiero Spinelli

“The speech of a great Europeanist. Mr Napolitano has pointed out the time of extreme difficulty pervading Europe and the risk that these difficulties shed doubt on some of its cornerstones”, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni commented during his address at today’s celebrations in the Senate for the 30th anniversary of the death of Altiero Spinelli.

“The President emeritus pointed out that, just like in past decades, the way out of this critical moment must involve a further boost in the direction of a policy of growth, tax union, a European foreign and defence policy, and a common management of migration flows”, Minister Gentiloni added.

“The Government” – the Minister concluded – “will multiply its efforts to ensure that the European Union overcome these limits and difficulties without backtracking and look forwards instead”.
