Foreign Minister Gentiloni meets Luis Almagro, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States

Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, at the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in Rome today.

During the meeting, Mr Gentiloni and Mr Almagro exchanged opinions on major regional matters, particularly the recent elections in Venezuela, and updated information on Italy’s support to the OAS.

Following its involvement in humanitarian mine clearance operations in Colombia and election observation missions, which have been part of Italy’s support to OAS in recent years, at the end of last year Italy allocated $ 37,000 for the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) – Water-Energy Nexus Programme to the Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency set up in Barbados in October 2015. “Italy is committed to significantly supporting the OAS in its plan to help Caribbean countries in priority areas such as the fight against climate change and the fight against corruption,” Minister Gentiloni said.
