Foreign Ministry arranges for the urgent hospitalisation in Italy of 13 Libyan nationals injured in the May 5 attack near Misrata

At the request of the Libyan Presidential Council, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni has organised operations to provide urgent hospitalisation in Italy of 13 Libyan citizens who were wounded in the attack near Misrata on 5 May.

Working in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Defence Staff the Foreign Ministry arranged for a flight to take the Libyans to Italy today. The plane is carrying medical devices to perform first emergency tests.  An officer of the Foreign Ministry is on board.

Today’s is one of the many aid operations provided to injured Libyans by the Foreign Ministry after 15 wounded Libyan citizens were taken to Italy to receive medical care following an attack in Zliten in January 2015. Such operations are part of the approach Minister Gentiloni has frequently highlighted whereby Italy is ready to assist Libya and the Libyan people in emergencies and to rebuild the country’s stability and secure development.
