Libya: Minister Gentiloni meets with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Martin Kobler

Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, received at the Farnesina the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, Martin Kobler.

The meeting focused on an exchange of opinions on the situation in Libya and on its institutional consolidation, in the wake of the recent Libyan Political Dialogue meetings in Tunis, on the results of which Minister Gentiloni expressed his appreciation to SRSG Kobler. Both parties also expressed their positive evaluation of the permanent international support obtained during the last few months by the Government of National Accord.

The meeting also offered the opportunity to reiterate Italy’s support for the United Nations efforts to favour institution building in Libya. “In renewing the Italian Government’s support to the Government of National Accord led by Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj, and especially for his efforts to promote inclusivity in the Country’s stabilization process, I express the hope that tangible steps forward be made to assure the resumption of public services and the improvement of Libya’s security, starting in Tripoli, through the establishment of the Presidential Guard,” said Foreign Minister Gentiloni.
