Today, at the Farnesina, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni received Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Ali Quatrani.
Minister Gentiloni expressed appreciation to his guest for his decision to join the Presidential Council (PC) led by President Al-Serraj. Mr Gentiloni underscored that Italy will continue to staunchly and resolutely support the institutions established under the Libyan Political Agreement.
During the meeting with deputy Prime Minister Ali Qatrai, Mr Gentiloni encouraged his guest, who represents the region of Cyrenaica, to make an essential contribution to overcome the current crisis by, above all, pursuing a basic political entente that might include the approval of the formation of the new government also by conferring to General Haftar an appropriate role in managing the country’s security. “Only by reinforcing the institutions, which are the product of the political agreement, and by uniting all security forces, will Libya make the progress we all expect on the road to long-lasting peace and stability,” said Foreign Minister Gentiloni.
