Foreign Minister Gentiloni and Libyan Prime Minister Al-Serraj discuss release of hostages with a telephone conversation

The Prime Minister of Libya, Fayez Al-Serraj, had a telephone conversation with the Italian Foreign Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, to express the satisfaction of the government of Tripoli over the release of two Italian hostages seized on 19 September in southern Libya.
Minister Gentiloni informed Prime Minister Renzi about the message received from Prime Minister Serraj and expressed his gratitude to the Libyan authorities for their collaboration on achieving a positive outcome with the hostage release.

During the telephone conversation, Minister Gentiloni and Mr Serraj also discussed the summit held in London last Monday with regard to the settlement of the stalemate between the GNA and the Central Bank, and the establishment of the Presidential Guard led by General Al Nakua.

Minister Gentiloni also had a telephone conversation with the Canadian Foreign Minister, Stephane Dion. The foreign minister commended Italy on behalf of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the efforts that led to the release of a Canadian citizen, Frank Poccia, along with the Italians, Danilo Calonego and Bruno Cacace.
