Explosion in Tripoli: Foreign Ministry, personnel not involved in attack

The Foreign Ministry confirms that a vehicle loaded with explosives blew up in Tripoli last night, near the Embassies of Italy and Egypt. Two victims have been reported, presumably the passengers of the car.

It is important to note that the local security system put in place to protect the diplomatic chancery worked to perfection. After the incident, Libyan Authorities immediately and visibly reinforced security around our Embassy and the Residence of Ambassador Perrone.

The incident did not involve any of the personnel in service at the diplomatic mission and they are all well.

The Italian Foreign Ministry and the Embassy, in coordination with Libyan Authorities, continue to monitor the incident with topmost attention.
