Fund-raising event for the regions of central Italy struck by the earthquakes

“The seismic events that hit central Italy in August and October of 2016 deeply moved and touched the one and a half million Canadians of Italian descent, as well as the federal, provincial and municipal authorities in Canada and all the Canadian people who made great efforts to provide tangible assistance in the areas struck by the earthquake. Among the various initiatives organised by eminent personalities of the Italian community in Canada, I would especially like to recall the ‘The Italy Earthquake Relief Fund’ (TIERF), previously called the ‘Central Italy Earthquake Relief Fund’ which, to date, has collected more than 550,000 Canadian Dollars (approximately 370,000 euros) aimed at supporting long-term reconstruction activities to the benefit of the communities that suffered the effects of the earthquakes.”

These was the statement made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, in view of the “Luncheon with Sergio Marchionne”, the closing event of the fund-raising campaign organised by the TIERF, scheduled for 12 May in Toronto that will be attended by the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne, the Mayor of Amatrice Sergio Pirozzi and the Mayor of Norcia, Nicola Alemanno.
