Woman repatriated on humanitarian flight

A young Italian woman, who was involved in a serious traffic accident in in Spain mid-July, was repatriated last night on a humanitarian flight. She was immediately taken to the “Armando Businco” Hospital of Cagliari and is now in the intensive care unit.

The young woman was in Formentera for a seasonal job and had suffered serious injuries and multiple fractures in a traffic accident on a scooter. She received the first emergency care in Spanish medical facilities in Ibiza.

The Foreign Ministry, through our Consulate General in Barcelona and the Honorary Vice Consul in Ibiza, followed the case from the very beginning, playing a crucial coordinating role in what turned out to be excellent teamwork.

The operation was made possible thanks to the effective coordination between the Prime Minister’s Office, the Foreign Ministry, the Prefecture, the Cagliari Hospital, the ‘118’ emergency medical services number and the Air Force.
