We welcome with great favour the news of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Good Neighbourly Relations between the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria. The prime ministers of Macedonia and Bulgaria, only a few weeks after the Trieste Summit, which they both attended, obtained a very important result by taking a step that will not fail to have a positive fallout on the stability of the Balkans region and its prospective European and Euro-Atlantic integration. As the long-time friend and supporter of the two Countries, Italy recognises the value of an agreement reached with great sense of responsibility and the firm will to look with confidence at the common European future, of which all the Balkan Countries are an integral part.
