International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons wins Nobel Peace Prize 2017

The awarding of the Nobel Peace Price 2017 to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons confirms that nuclear disarmament represents a priority for the world’s public opinion.
Italy shares this vision in compliance with the international agreements entered into. The country also fully shares a deep concern over the catastrophic consequences that the use of nuclear arms would bring about, and pursues the goal of a world free of such weapons.

To fulfil this goal, an inclusive, gradual and realistic path must be completed to promote an irreversible, transparent and verifiable nuclear disarmament process. The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons remains key, particularly as it applies to nuclear disarmament. Italy is committed to strengthening the NPT and promoting its universalisation.
