Minister Alfano reiterates Italy’s strong support for the unity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon and Lebanon’s political leadership: “Italy calls on all parties, in Lebanon and in the region, in order to spare no effort to preserve the country from regional conflicts and tensions.
Following the announcment of the resignation offered by Prime Minister Hariri, Italy calls for the necessary respect for the proper functioning of the Lebanese democratic institutions and its constitutional procedures, and supports President Aoun’s appeals for calm and unity.
In renewing its constant commitment, both multilaterally and bilaterally, to the stability of Lebanon, Italy is convinced that this crucial objective can only be achieved through strong and respected state institutions, in particular the armed and police forces that constitute the legitimate guarantors of the country’s security, to which constant international support is directed.
