The registration of the restaurant trademark “la mafia se sienta a la mesa” is declared invalid– Alfano: “A victory for Italy”
“The news about the registration of the trademark “La Mafia se siente a la mesa” being declared invalid is a victory for Italy and confirms the relevance of the efforts made by the Government in this respect, ” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, following today’s judgement of the General Court of the European Union.
“The image of our country and of all Italians in the world is a heritage of the highest order that must be supported and defended. Today’s judgement is the crowning achievement of the great task undertaken by the Farnesina starting in 2015 to have the European trademark for a chain of restaurants declared invalid,” said Alfano. “By utilising the name of one of today’s most dangerous criminal organisations, the company has damaged the reputation of Italy, harming, among other things, the extremely positive reputation of Italian food. More than anything else, it is an unacceptable offence to Mafia victims,” concluded the minister.
