Undersecretary of State Amendola at CEDRE Conference

The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincenzo Amendola, represented Italy today at the CEDRE Conference to support the Lebanese economy. French President Emmanuel Macron and Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri attended the Conference as well, along with delegations from 40 countries, international financial organisations and private stakeholders. The objective of the Conference was to collect nearly $10 billion to finance development programmes in Lebanon. In his address, Undersecretary Amendola confirmed the establishment of two credit lines worth a total of €120 million euro. This will allow the financing of important infrastructure projects, with an expected “multiplier effect”, which will have a positive impact on the Lebanese economy. Lastly, Undersecretary Amendola recalled the role played by Italian enterprises in the economy of the country: “We are Lebanon’s first trading partner in the EU and second worldwide. Italian enterprises have already gained a significant experience in the country. I am sure they can make a fundamental contribution to the modernisation of Lebanese infrastructure, especially in water, energy and wastewater sectors.”
