The Foreign Ministry confirms that, in line with the announcement made yesterday, this morning the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, had a letter delivered to the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the Union, Federica Mogherini, which states that, in the light of the conclusions of the European Council meeting of 28 June, the provisions presently contained in the “operating plan” of the EUNAVFOR Med Sophia operation are no longer deemed to be applicable as they identify Italy as the only place to disembark the migrants rescued by its units.
Thus, Minister Moavero gave instructions to the Italian Representative to the Political and Security Committee to raise the need to amend the part of “operating plan” of the EUNAVFOR Med Sophia operation that identifies the port of disembarkation in tomorrow’s meeting.
