Italy makes a contribution to support Palestinian refugees in Syria

The Italian Development Cooperation Agency has earmarked an emergency multilateral contribution of 1 million Euros for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in support of Palestinian refugees in Syria. The UNRWA estimates that in 2018, 438,000 Palestinian refugees were still present in Syria, almost 95% of whom depends on humanitarian aid to meet their primary needs.

With this contribution, the Italian Cooperation service intends to assure that Palestinian minors sheltered in Syria be given access to education services by giving them psycho-social support and providing teachers and parents training on the issue of gender violence and the risk deriving from the presence on the ground of unexploded remnants of war.

This initiative does not exhaust the Italian Cooperation Agency’s attention for the Syrian crisis and its commitment for humanitarian causes.
