The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, at the meeting of the Inter-ministerial Committee for European Affairs (CIAE) held yesterday, 24 October, at Palazzo Chigi confirmed: “The Foreign Minister and the Foreign Ministry are engaged in the negotiations initiated last June in Brussels on the Multiannual Financial Framework, the European Union’s budget, for 2021-2027”. In compliance with Law N. 234/2012, the Committee meeting was chaired by the Minister for European Affairs, Paolo Savona, and was attended by the Deputy Prime Ministers Di Maio and Salvini and by Ministers Trenta, Bonafede, Toninelli, Costa, Lezzi and Stefani”.
He continued: “The competent offices of the Foreign Ministry (the Directorate General for the European Union and Italy’s Permanent Mission to the EU) are working in close cooperation with the Department for European Policies, the State General Accounting Department and all the relevant Ministries in order to assure the promotion of Italy’s position through a coherent line of action effectively compliant with Italian and European interests.”
The Committee meeting offered the opportunity to finetune the lines of action that Italy intends to pursue at the negotiations on the European Union budget for 2021-2027. All the ministers attending the meeting illustrated their views on the general and horizontal aspects of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework and the public policies under their direct respective competence. The discussion also included the exchange of opinions that Minister Moavero had in Brussels last 17 October, at the meeting with the Italian Vice Presidents of the European Parliament and with the Italian Heads of Delegation in EP parliamentary groups.
The CIAE will assure regular political coordination through the complex negotiations to be held at European level over the next few months.
