The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, visited the FAO headquarters in Rome, where she was received by Director-General Josè Graziano da Silva.

The meeting made an overview of the performance of the strategic partnership between Italy and FAO in achieving the common goal of promoting sustainable agriculture and food security, also in view of the effect that these can have on local conflicts and migration phenomena. The Deputy Minister and the Director-General agreed on the need for an approach capable of tackling the deep-set causes of migration and for common development cooperation policies involving both the beneficiaries and the private sector, with a special focus on youth and their capacity to innovate. In this perspective, Deputy Minister Del Re informed the Director-General of her upcoming trip to the Horn of Africa, in which she will also be accompanied by a delegation of business representatives.

The Deputy Minister went on to express Italy’s intention to increase its contribution for the promotion of sustainable agriculture, possibly in cooperation with FAO, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.
